Boundaries For Life Schedule Announced for 2015

European Healthy Stadia Network is pleased to announce its involvement in this year’s series of Boundaries For Life (BFL) events to take place at both domestic and international matches for the 2015 cricket season. Following its inaugural health events in 2010, BFL is now a well established health checks and health promotion vehicle for use at cricket venues.

The aim of BFL is to engage fans in a relaxed environment, some of whom would not normally access statutory health services, and to raise awareness regarding major killers such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases (heart disease and stroke) and mouth cancer. The health checks include measurement of resting blood pressure, measuring body mass index (BMI), a cholesterol check and basic mouth check. All checks are carried out by professional medical staff (nurses, doctors and dentists), and previous events have generated an average of 40-50 participants over the course of the day.

This year BFL will be hosted at a wide selection of international matches and domestic cup fixtures – including the Ashes – at the following grounds:

  • Headingly (Leeds), 31st May – England v New Zealand (Investec Test Series)
  • Edgbaston (Birmingham), 9th June – England v New Zealand (Royal London One Day Series)
  • Kia Oval (London), 22 & 23rd August – England v Australia (Investec Ashes Test Series)
  • SWALEC Stadium (Cardiff), 31st August – England v Australia (NatWest IT20)
  • Emirates Old Trafford (Manchester), 13 September – England v Australia (Royal London One Day Series)
  • Lord’s (London), 19th September – Royal London One Day Cup Final

Commenting on this year’s schedule of BFL events, Ben Green (Venue Support Manager, England and Wales Cricket Board), said: “I am delighted that a number of our first class cricket venues are supporting the Boundaries For Life health check events over the course of the 2015 cricket season. These screening initiatives are an excellent way to reach out to fans that may not be able to easily access health services due to time and work pressures, and highlight an important role our clubs can play in educating and screening against diseases such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and mouth cancer.”
