Over the last fifteen years, sports organisations have seen significant success in harnessing the power of sport for the betterment of public health. Sport provides a plethora of tools, assets and communication channels that can be leveraged to help encourage people from a range of demographics, many of which are traditionally viewed as hard-to-reach, to engage in health promotion activities.
Using community coaches, stadia facilities, club badges and even sport-related language – think ‘tackling’ and ‘match-winner’ – sport can help to increase the impact of public health interventions and help support the health of fans, staff and local communities.
