29 Aug Sports Clubs Across Europe Support World Heart Day 2013
Sports Clubs Promote Heart Health in Build Up to World Heart Day – 29th September 2013
Preparations to promote heart health as part of this year’s World Heart Day by sports stadia, clubs and governing bodies of sport are already underway in anticipation of this year’s event.
Held on 29th September each year, World Heart Day is organised by the World Heart Federation (WHF). In 2013 the European Healthy Stadia Network and WHF, with the support of UEFA, is encouraging professional sports clubs to support World Heart Day by raising awareness of heart health and healthier lifestyles. To help do this, Healthy Stadia has developed a bespoke toolkit for sports clubs and stadia on how to develop simple health promoting policies, actions and communications outputs in support of World Heart Day. The ideas and guidance in the toolkit are very simple to implement, and are backed up with templates, examples and further information from experts in the field. To access the toolkit please see the download link below.
Building upon the success of UEFA’s heart health campaign run over the course of Women’s EURO in Sweden this year – Make a Healthy Heart Your Goal – Healthy Stadia is also currently working on a targeted partnership project in Scandinavia to develop healthy heart initiatives through their football clubs. All six national football associations will be working with their clubs to develop health promoting actions at their stadia, and will help to promote World Heart Day through communications and media support.
The theme for World Heart Day in 2013 addresses the importance of a life-course approach to the prevention and control of cardiovascular disease (CVD) with a focus on women and children. A life-course approach is the key to prevention and control of CVD because healthy children lead to healthy adults and healthy adults lead to healthy families and communities.
